Photography Course Levels Explained

No matter what your photography level is, or what your preferred photography style is, we have a photographic course, workshop, online class, outdoor classroom or holiday that will suit your digital photographic needs. From a beginner, who has just purchased a new camera to a more experienced shooter, we have something for everyone.

All DPS photography courses, offsite location shoots and online classes are broken down into levels and categories. Find out which one suits you.

LEVEL 1 Courses

These courses are short, part time photography courses that take place at DPS HQ in Dublin City Centre, or via our online campus. They are designed to get you up to speed, not just with your camera, but with the principals of photography. They cover everything from complete basics, to more advanced concepts. Our level 1 courses form the back bone for all future learning in photography. They do this by helping you get the basics in place, by dispelling myths, by busting jargon and getting you comfortable with the manual side of your camera. As we say here at Dublin Photography School, “you can’t learn to drive just by reading the rules of the road”.

Level: Complete beginners, experienced novices who may be struggling to get out of automatic, self taught photographers looking to formalise their photography knowledge and photographers returning after a long break.

Course Frequency : Our start dates and frequency will depend on the time of the the year. Below is an indication of how often they run.

7 week level 1  (includes two location shoots) – six start dates a year

1 day level 1 – one course a month

4 week online level 1 – one course every two months

Equipment Needed:

DSLR Camera, Mirrorless Camera, Tripod, Remote Control.

LEVEL 2 Courses

These courses are short, part time photography courses that take place at DPS HQ in Dublin City Centre, or via our online campus. The courses will helpp you move beyond the basics and look deeper into the fine tuning of your camera. They are ideal for anyone looking to get a deeper understanding of the correct metering and focus modes, the benefits of shutter and aperture priority and why it is better to shoot RAW over JPEG.  You will become a more confident shooter by learning the right techniques for different situations.  Level 2 courses follow directly on from our level 1 courses.

Level: Anyone who has completed our 7 week or 1 day level 1 course or anyone who is comfortable in the manual side of their camera.

Course Frequency : Our start dates and frequency will depend on the time of the the year. Below is an indication of how often they run.
