A Circular Polarizing (CPL) filter is a favourite

A Circular Polarizing (CPL) filter is a favourite here at DPS and a must for your photography kit bag and a must if out shooting at this time of the year.

A CPL filter – which stands for circular polarizer/linear – is a glass attachment that can reduce the glare from reflected surfaces. Although there are various types available on the market, the most popular is the circular model, partly as it can fit easily onto the end of virtually any camera lens.

A CPL filter is beneficial for so many reasons:

They remove unwanted glare
They reduce water reflections & glass reflections (A CPL filter will also reduce glare from reflected surfaces, creating clearer images)

They minimise haze (This can result in making faraway objects appear sharper with increased clarity & colour saturation)

They enhance colours (great for skies & foliage) - For photos of foliage or forests, the CPL filter can add saturation, vividness and contrast. It can transform nature into a richer and more verdant shade of colors. You can also use a circular polarizing lens filter to create darker, richer or more intense tones. This is especially relevant if you want to add drama, atmosphere or even a sense of tension to an image.

They increase contrast in the sky (it can add a deeper tone to the blue, or make dull clouds appear more visually striking)

They are lightweight & easy to use

The DPS team, led by @stewartkennyphotography @tdactiveholidays and a merry crew of photographers have just returned from a 5 day photography adventure to Italy & The Dolomites with full memory cards and tired bodies.

It has been two and half years since we charged our batteries, packed our kit bags and dusted off our tripods and we are already counting the weeks until we do it all again!!

A massive thanks to Martin, our fab guide and all who joined us and made the trip memorable. It was a trip filled with landscape, street & documentary, long exposure, macro, composition and black & white photography (to name but a few), along with so many laughs, new friendships, sun and snow!

We spent our days photographing many beautiful and unforgettable places and the weather was made 'just for us photographers'!

I think this image (📷 by @hunt4andrea ) just about sums up the fun that was had over the trip and we can't wait to see the images from all the guys soon 🤘
